About Me

Professionally speaking…

David Zwirner, 2022

Editing—especially editing art history—was a natural career choice for me; I’ve been passionate about both art and writing for as long as I can remember. Visual arts and the written word shape how we understand ourselves and the world we live in, and I find it very fulfilling to be an editorial partner and guide at that intersection.

I find it tremendously gratifying to help an author refine their narrative and create a compelling experience for their readers.

I have a master’s degree in art history from UCLA, and a bachelor’s degree in art history from Wellesley College.

Prior to launching my editing business in 2018, every job I ever had was at some intersection of the arts and communication. My LinkedIn page details these work experiences.

I’m the director of the Association of Art Editors (of which I am also a member).

I’m also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and ACES: The Society for Editing (see my 2021 interview with ACES here).

Personally speaking…

Me with artist Shinji Ohmaki, who I met while he was strolling through his own exhibition at the National Art Center, Tokyo, Japan.

I’m a native of the great state of Maine. I’ve lived in Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, and Bloomington, Indiana. Since 2008, I’ve been based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

I love Japanese culture. I first traveled to Japan as a high school exchange student and later studied college-level Japanese for three years. Since 2022, I’ve returned to Japan three times, and I am always planning my next trip there.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, kayaking, going to art exhibitions, doing the New York Times word games, and sampling craft beers. You can find me on Instagram.

Contact me and let’s get started. I look forward to hearing from you!
